Clara Cohen

We discover sculptural silhouettes and fashion fictions when delving into the Argentinian photographers portfolio

With an internship background that includes working closely with the likes of Peter Lindbergh and Ellen Von Unwerth, Clara Cohen is a photographer who has learnt from some of the most iconic fashion image makers in recent history. Wanting to build on these 5 months in New York interning for 2b Management, Clara is now working for Naguel Rivero in Buenos Aires, whose effortless experimentation with natural light has clearly influenced Clara’s own work.

Prior to this, two years studying Lighting for Film at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires laid the foundations for her current analogue explorations. As is clear from the images below, this training has developed an artistic eye that goes far beyond what the title of ‘fashion photographer’ suggests.

When Clara’s submission arrived in our inbox, we especially adored the deliberate attention to natural, continuous (no-flash) light, and a style which she defines as “architectural”. Raised by an architect, she is “obsessed with structures and form…always looking for something that breaks with what the body is expected to be like”. In this vain, she tells us that she is particularly interested in how models, who are publicly constructed as the strongest characters, often become the frailest backstage. As a result, her mission is to use light to effectively portray not only femininity but humanity…and oh how she delivers.

This obsession with light has produced frankly exquisite results; any more words will only delay you giving Clara’s images the attention they deserve. So without further ado, take a look below, and be sure to check out her site too.
