Shirley Yu
Crisp, accomplished fashion photography from the 19yr old Rutgers I.T. major
At just 19 years old, Shirley Yu seems to already have something of a master plan. The Rutgers University Information Technology and Computer Science student, devotes her spare time to fashion photography and is producing some wonderfully polished work.
Discussions with her parents convinced Shirley that it would be a good policy to have a degree with which she can secure a career, as a backup to her creative pursuits. At school though, she partakes in extracurriculars like being photo editor of the university’s fashion magazine Trim, and collegiate newspaper The Daily Targum.
Last summer, in a bid to brush up on her production and equipment knowledge she simultaneously interned at Interview Magazine and Jack Studios respectively. Her portfolio backs up those associations with slickly shot images that display a great flexibility for editorial. It comes as little surprise to also learn that the talented and driven teen has also assisted the likes of Elle Muliarchyk, Andrew Kuykendall, Zhang Jingna, Andrew Boyle and Michael Donovan.
An active member of the American Photographic Artists association and Young Photographer’s Alliance in New York City, Shirley has just been announced as a winner of PDN’s The Look fashion photography contest in the student/debut category. Need we say anymore?
