Rosetta
Josh Geoghegan's cosmic print masterpiece fuses space travel and fashion to stunning effect
The admission that I’m helplessly fascinated by print publications will come as no real surprise to you. Of recent, a new facet to the vice has arisen in the form of artist books. The likes of Anouk Kruithof are exploring print in wonderfully abstract ways and so to are students, with projects that cross disciplines.
For the first time in our relatively short history, this post marks the first time that we’ve featured the same student twice in our talent section. When a copy of Rosetta arrived in the post this morning though, complete with resplendent silver envelope, I felt compelled to break that tradition. This time last year, Josh Geoghegan had caught our eye with his tight portfolio and worldly CV, but in Rosetta, he really has raised the bar.
Not content with designing the stunning contemporary lookbook, he art directed and photographed the fashion shoot within. The publication “Explores the Rosetta space mission and the aesthetics of space and space travel” and it does it beautifully.
I can’t for the life of me remember the book in question, but I do recall She Was Only and myself drooling over a fashion brand’s promo publication for being printed with white ink on black paper. It may sound like a pointless detail, but by golly does it look great. It’s not a frivolous treatment here either, it lends itself perfectly to the theme of the publication.
The premium feel of Rosetta is further strengthened by the styling of the shoot, with pieces by Linda Farrow, Christopher Ræburn and Aitor Throup sat amongst those of emerging designers like Moss Omey. An exquisite use of GF Smith‘s Colorplan Ebony Black, Rosetta could easily work in a high fashion retail environment such is it’s professionalism.
Josh has also created a website for the publication, with a well shot video whose soundtrack oozes Blade Runner. You can pre-order a copy of Rosetta via the first of the two links below, and check out Josh’s portfolio site via the second. This is a very slick piece of work from a lavishly talented young creative who we will continue to keep close tabs on.
