Brennan Bucannan

We're kicking off our talent posts again with playful work from the Film & TV Production student

There’s something really endearing about the playful nature of the 20 year old’s creative output which spans illustration, painting and photography. Currently studying at Bucks New Uni Brennan’s style reminds us a little of Issue One contributor Vincy Cheung (and that can only be a good thing).

Growing up in a small village in Kent, Brennan spent a good deal of time playing in the woods and found himself drawn to the colours and light  of the outdoors. Through school his interests were fine art, photography and film. His love for photography and art meant that film seemed a natural way to mix the two. Citing inspiration from Wes Anderson and Tony Hill he first explored the medium shooting friends at the local skate park.

He still absolute loves Lego, an influence that is readily apparent in his palette. Graphically, Jim Phillips‘ skateboard art has had a heavy influence on him and that cheery, bright and fun outlook radiates his work across the mediums.

For such a young artist, Brennan has a really worldly take on things too, explaining to us that, “For now I am just having fun with art. Messing around and making mistakes is the best way to do something creative”. Well we like his mistakes and his approach in general – work that perfectly accompanies these halcyon summer days.
